Just found this website and wanted to share. It is a awersome set of resources of all kinds that deal with disaster and emergency management specifically. Many of the topics I have found on the site I did not know about.
I sometimes wonder this based on what others perceive and what I ask myself. I have a number of issues but do not consider them disabilities but challenges. Why should something that sounds like something hard and almost negative stop anyone. From my perspective it should not.
a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual
Title 42 Chapter 126 Sec. 12102
But, I had many question on definitions of other words that deal with challenges and disabilities. The ADA National Network has a great list of definitions and very well done.
Here is a great video, although done in 2010, still has great information.
What are your questions regarding the ADA? What resources do you use do have that would help others? What is your thoughts about the ADA in 2019?
Was thinking today about disabilities and the challenges that they bring to emergency management and resiliency. I came across this website from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and wanted to share. It is a list of disability resources and health care resources for emergency managers to better help them with plans and preparing for a disaster and other emergencies. The CDC says this about the program:
The following resources were developed by CDC funded State Disability and Health Programs. Public health professionals, emergency personnel and communities can use them to create emergency preparedness and response plans that are inclusive of people with disabilities.
I look forward to learning and growing so what resources do you or can you share with others to help them prepare for a emergency and better their plans?
