On the Earth

I was thinking of our planet this evening and wanted to give a short post on my feeling and thoughts on what and were we all live. The reason for this is I was flipping through the TV channels and came across that TV series called Blue Planet by the BBC. My question to you all is: What is the only common thing we all share and we all have no place to call our own at any moment of time? I answer with a quote from Lady Bird Johnson, First Lady of the United States and Wife of the 36th President of the United States Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ).

“The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.”

I do not think any physical object we all hold dear to us has more meaning to us then our Planet. Right now we only have 1. Quick question, and think, what makes this planet so unique, special, old and beautiful? Here are a few statistics that tell a very cool story:

  • Age: 4.54 billion ± 0.05 years old
  • Radius: 6,371 km
  • Distance to the Moon: 384,400 km

I just find our planet and our world so beautiful and because of that we have a unique set of challenges that come with our world. Whether it be hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, etc. Because of this, and this is kind of a idealist thing, but should not we all have a part in preserving what we have and hold dear. This is what I believe is resilience. That we have to hold our course, keep going and never stop helping in a small way preserving our planet. I know preservation of this world mean different things to different people but I hope we can all agree that no matter if it is cycles or part of natural course of things that our planet is changing in so many ways. I think sometime preserving the planet in a way means saving ourselves from ourselves. The earth is very human also. We should treat it as a living breathing being in its own right.

So, The question to you all is what does a resilient earth mean to you? What is environmental resilience? What idealist ideas do you have that make our planet so special to you?
